Research Project:

Identify someone (or a group) who has committed a horrible atrocity against another person or group of people. Research to identify the who, what, when, where, why of the atrocity. Create a multi-media presentation that portrays the atrocity and presents a claim about the possibilities and limitations of forgiveness associated with this atrocity. Support claims with specific evidence from multiple sources.

TASK 3:Presentation (50%)

Guidelines:
  1. Presentation should be 3-5 minutes in length. Slideshows should be a minimum of 8-9 slides (depending on group size) with 1 being works cited. Slides should be equally divided among group members for responsibility. Make sure that these individual contributions create one smooth, cohesive presentation- not a big choppy mess!
  2. You will be graded on your use of graphics, text, etc. Make sure that slides are attractive, informative, and effective.
  3. You will be scored on your oral presentation skills as well. You will have to talk!!
  4. Every time you use a source (direct quotes, paraphrasing, or even just ideas), you MUST inslude the website at the bottom of your slide as a footer. I would expect you to do this on nearly every slide.
  5. You must finish your presentation with a Works Cited page. This will be in MLA format as we discussed and went over in class.
  6. Make sure you don't just summarize the information. In addition to teaching the class about this atrocity, make a claim about forgiveness and concentrate during your presentation on backing up that claim with evidence.

Think about the rhetorical triangle...

  • Ethos- You will seem credible if you cite your research and seem reasonable and fair in your claims
  • Logos- Give us all of the facts. Back up your claims with evidence.
  • Pathos- Appeal to our emotions. Who will you humanize? If you are claiming that your subject is unforgivable, grab our heart-strings with the victims. If you are claiming that your subject is a victim as well, how can you make us see your subject as something other than a monster?
